The Return of the Light     |     September / October 2018

Picture
Kilmorack Gallery, Beauly. 29th September - 27th October

An exhibition of new etchings from Shetland, inspired by great printmakers from the past and the circular world around me.

The limitations of printmaking techniques force unclear ideas into sharp focus. As acid bites into metal an exciting mark is created that is difficult to erase.

Find out more about the exhibition here, and browse some of the images in my etchings gallery.

A Prayer for the Healing of Nations    |    June / July 2017

Da Gadderie, Shetland Museum and Archives, Lerwick. 3rd June – 14th July 2017.

In a modern, technological world so disconnected from nature where humanity struggles to unite in peace and harmony with the forces of creation, this exhibition does not instruct us how to live but rather asks us to consider how we as people can heal the displacement and disunity of our global community.  These drawings portray the dichotomy of humanity’s destructive co-existence with the world of nature.  Issues such as the rise of Far Right extremism, environmental pollution and war are immersed amongst the beauty, tranquility and harmonious interconnection of the spirit of nature.

“These drawings weep for the world and celebrate the world. Some of the work is redemptive and hopeful and some of it stares hard reality in the face.” Paul Bloomer (2017)

Joint exhibition with Hetty Haxworth and Paul Furneaux
Tatha Gallery, Newport-on-Tay. 19 March – 23 April 2016

'The work of Haxworth, Bloomer and Furneaux is a unique combination of tradition, experience and technique, which reflects the collective knowledge inherent in these experienced printmakers whilst providing a fascinating reflection into the symbiotic influences in Scottish Art.'

How Then Shall We Now Live?

Mareel, Lerwick. November 2013 – September 2014
Bonhoga Gallery, Weisdale. November 2013 – December 2013

Held over two venues, these exhibitions bring together large-scale drawings and woodcut prints selected from twenty-five years of artistic output, as well as recent work produced on the iPhone. The work explores the human condition and the theatrical dramas between light and dark, secular and sacred, freedom and captivity.

Unseen

Vaila Fine Art, Lerwick. From 16th April 2011

As the exhibition press release says: 'The show represents only a modest and potentially more commercially accessible sample of pictures by this very prolific artist and teacher, engaged as much in private pursuit of public expression as in current affairs. The oils on show are of domestic dimensions'.

A review of the exhibition by Peter Davis was published in
Shetland News.

Facing the Sea, London

Boundary Gallery, London. 11 March – 24 April 2010.

"I have lived in Shetland for thirteen years and the unique light of the northern hemisphere helps to shape the colours that live at the centre of my art."
