Narrative paintings
The narrative element of these pictures usually evolves as I wrestle with
the formal elements of composition in that I do not usually have preformed
ideas in my head when I begin painting them. They are a small representative
selection of a larger body of work reflecting my responses to living in
city and country bound together by a search for Christian spirituality
that shines light and colour in even the darkest of places. Some of the
works in this series are a form of visual prayer. I do not consciously
set out to make Christian art but approach these pictures in a prayerful
way uttering in pictures what I cannot say in words. These works evolve
slowly and are meant for quiet reflection and meditation the meaning often
only being revealed over a period of time.
